Add Group Module

This guide is designed to help you understand and use the Group Module. This module allows you to easily manage and authorize multiple users at once by grouping them together.

Access Requirements

To access this page, the user must either have Administrator privileges or the CREATE permission for the Groups module.

The CREATE permission allows users to create new groups. Users without administrator privileges or the required permission cannot access this page.

If you do not have the required permission, ask your administrator to grant it from one of the authorization pages below.

Authorization

Users without the required authorization will receive the following error:

Access Denied

You don't have access to this resource.

"Add Group" Screen and Fields

The Add Group form is simple and intuitive. Here is what each field does:

Field Name Type Description
Name Text Input The name of the group (e.g., Data Platform Team, BI Analysts, Data Science Group).
Description Text Area A short note explaining what this group is for (e.g., Analysts group with read access to the Redshift data warehouse) (Maximum 200 characters).
Admin Toggle Switch If enabled, this group is designated as an administrator group.
Is Active Toggle Switch Controls whether the group is active. If disabled (inactive), group permissions are temporarily suspended.
Users Multi-select List The list of users you want to add to this group.

How to Create a New Group (Step-by-Step)

Follow these steps to create your group:

Step 1: Fill in the Group Details

  • Enter a clear Name so other managers can easily understand which data roles or permissions this group covers.
  • Add a brief Description mentioning which data sources they can access if needed.
  • Set the Is Active switch to active (orange color) to make sure the group can be used immediately.

Step 2: Find and Select Users

In the Users section:

  • Use the Search... box to quickly find users by their name or email address.
  • Turn on the Show Only Unselected switch if you want to hide the users you have already checked, making it easier to see who is left.
  • Check the box next to each user you want to add to the group.

Step 3: Save Your Group

  • Click the Save button (orange) to create the group.
  • If you change your mind and want to discard your changes, simply click Cancel.
