Tables

The Tables screen allows you to view and manage tables created under a catalog namespace. From this screen, you can review existing tables, create new tables, and add tables from a source system for supported namespace types.

Table creation options vary depending on whether the namespace type is File or JDBC.

Table List

Tables belonging to the selected namespace can be displayed in either list or card view.

Depending on the namespace configuration, the following information is displayed for each table:

  • Name: The table name and, if available, its display name.
  • Description: The description defined for the table.
  • Location: For File namespaces, the location where the table data is stored.
  • Format: For File namespaces, the file format used by the table.
  • Create Date: The date and time when the table was created.
  • Update Date: The date and time when the table was last updated.
  • Status: Indicates whether the table is active or inactive.

Use the filtering controls at the top of the screen to filter records and switch between list and card views.

Adding a Table

Use Add Table to create a new table under the selected namespace.

The fields available on the Add Table screen depend on the namespace type.

Adding a Table to a File Namespace

When adding a table to a File namespace, you define the file-based structure of the table.

The basic fields are:

  • Name: The name used to identify the table in the system.
  • Display Name: The table name displayed in the user interface.
  • Description: A description of the table.

Under File Specification:

  • Format: Specifies the data format used by the table.
  • Location: Specifies the file or object storage location containing the table data.
  • Properties: Allows additional table properties to be defined as key-value pairs when required.

The namespace's base location can be used to determine the data path for the table.

Schema Builder

The Schema Builder is used to define the column structure of the table.

Use Column to add columns to the table. This section allows you to configure the table schema and define the structure of the data in the catalog.

After completing the configuration, click Save to create the table.

Adding a Table to a JDBC Namespace

JDBC namespaces are connected to a relational data source. Therefore, existing schemas and tables from the connected source can be used when creating a table.

In addition to the basic table information, the Add Table screen contains the following fields:

  • Source Schema: Selects a database schema available through the configured connection.
  • Source Table: Selects a source table from the selected schema.
  • Properties: Allows additional properties to be defined as key-value pairs when required.
  • Schema Builder: Allows the table's column structure to be viewed or configured.

After selecting the source schema and source table, complete the required configuration and save the table to add it to the catalog.

Bulk Adding Tables

For JDBC namespaces, tables can be added individually using Add Table or multiple tables can be added at once using Bulk Add Table.

Bulk Add Table is useful when multiple tables from the same source schema need to be added to the catalog.

To bulk add tables:

  1. Select a database schema from Source Schema.
  2. Tables available in the selected schema are displayed under Source Tables.
  3. Select the tables you want to add.
  4. Use the search field to find specific source tables.
  5. Enable Show Only Unselected to display only tables that have not yet been selected.
  6. Click Save to add the selected tables to the catalog.

This method simplifies the process of registering multiple existing database tables in the catalog.

Differences Between File and JDBC Namespaces

For a File namespace, a table is created by defining its format, location, and schema.

For a JDBC namespace, a table can be created using a source schema and source table from the connected data source. JDBC namespaces also support Bulk Add Table, which allows multiple source tables to be added in a single operation.

For this reason, the fields and available operations on the Add Table screen may vary depending on the type of the selected namespace.
