Tasks Module

Overview

The Tasks Module serves as the centralized workflow hub within the DataFloem platform where users can assign tasks to one another, system-level resource access requests are consolidated, and approval pipelines are managed.

This module unifies both manually created general tasks and automated access requests triggered when users attempt to interact with platform resources (such as Sources, Targets, Projects, or Clusters) for which they lack permissions.

Tasks within the platform are categorized into two primary types:

  • General: Tasks created manually by users for standard project tracking, collaboration, and individual action items.
  • Access Request: System-generated tasks triggered automatically when a user requests permissions for a restricted resource, requiring administrative approval or rejection.

Task Management

This page displays a comprehensive list of all active, completed, or rejected tasks and access requests within the system.

From this interface, users can perform the following actions:

  • View all platform tasks along with their current operational states.
  • Search, filter, and sort the task repository by status, type, owner, assignee, or date.
  • Create new general tasks using the slide-out "Add Task" panel on the right.
  • Delegate tasks either to a specific individual (Assigned To User) or an entire user group (Assigned To Group).
  • Review, approve (Done), or decline (Rejected) incoming access requests.

Task Attributes

Each task record consists of the following metadata fields.

Field Description
Status Indicates the current stage of the task lifecycle (To Do, Done, Rejected).
Name & Type The title of the task accompanied by its structural categorization (General, Access Request).
Description Detailed context regarding the task. For Access Requests, source and project mappings are automatically generated (e.g., source: Postgre_DFL / project: z-test).
Owner The user who initiated the task or triggered the system access request.
Assigned To User The specific platform user designated to resolve the task.
Assigned To Group The specific administrative or operational group (e.g., dfladmin) responsible for evaluating the request.
Update Date The exact timestamp denoting when the task was last modified or underwent a state transition.

Approval Workflow & Assignment Logic

  • Group-Based Allocation: When an Access Request is initiated, the system automatically routes the ticket to the authorized group (e.g., dfladmin) responsible for managing that resource category. Any eligible member of that group can process the action.
  • User-Specific Allocation: Manually defined General tasks can be explicitly assigned to an individual user for direct accountability.
  • Resolution States: Resolving an open item transitions its status from To Do to Done, while dismissing or denying an item updates its status to Rejected.

Key Considerations

  • The Tasks Module functions simultaneously as a project management tool (To-Do framework) and an internal security/governance compliance checkpoint (Access Control).
  • Automated access request descriptions follow a structured template logic (resource_type: resource_name / project: project_name) to ensure auditing uniformity.
  • Additional administrative actions or deeper task inspections can be accessed via the context action menu (...) located on the right side of each record row.
