Add Task Panel

Overview

The Add Task panel allows users and administrators to manually create a new general task within the system.

Unlike system-generated Access Requests, which are triggered automatically by the platform during permission bottlenecks, a manual task is explicitly defined by a user to track actions, assign responsibilities, or organize collaborative work items.

Once created, the task is populated into the central Tasks repository with an initial status of To Do. It immediately becomes visible to the designated individual or group assigned to handle the workload.

Prerequisites

Before creating a task, ensure that:

  • You have an active user session with valid platform access.
  • You have identified the explicit scope or requirement of the task.
  • The target user or group intended for the assignment is already registered within the platform.

Task Information

The following task details can be configured within the panel:

Field Required Description
Name Yes A concise title summarizing the core objective of the task.
Description No Detailed context or technical instructions regarding the task. This field supports a maximum configuration of 200 characters.
Assigned To User No* Specifies a unique individual responsible for executing the task. (*Either User or Group should typically be designated).
Assigned To Group No* Specifies an entire organizational or administrative group (e.g., dfladmin) responsible for managing the task.

Task Creation Process

To create a new task:

  1. Click the Add Task button on the main Tasks interface to toggle the slide-out panel.
  2. Enter a clear and actionable Name.
  3. Provide additional context or technical metrics in the Description area (keeping under the 200-character threshold).
  4. Select the appropriate assignee from either the Assigned To User or Assigned To Group dropdown menus.
  5. Review the input fields and click Save to publish the task, or Cancel to discard.

Default Behavior

The system applies the following defaults when creating a manual task:

  • The initial status is automatically initialized to To Do.
  • The task's Type is implicitly declared as General.
  • The task's Owner is automatically mapped to the user account currently executing the operation.
  • The Update Date field is instantly timestamped with the exact creation date and time.

Validation

The following structural validations are enforced before a task is saved:

  • The Name field cannot be left blank or contain only whitespace.
  • The Description must not exceed the maximum character limit ($0 - 200$).

Notes

  • Manual tasks default to the General category to easily distinguish them from security-driven automated Access Requests.
  • Modifying the state of the task (e.g., moving it to Done or Rejected) is handled via the row action menu (...) on the main list overview rather than within this creation panel.
